Camera and Computer
A short class to help you load those pictures in your digital camera onto
your computer and begin to manipulate them.
Computer 101
Prerequisite for most courses except for those students with one solid
year of computer work. Learn how to use the mouse (left and right buttons
and scroll wheel), Keyboard: Insert, delete, print screen, page up/page
down, arrow keys, symbols, cap lock, Enter and F keys. A basic ability
to type is required. Windows Vista, XP or 2000: Creating and deleting
Folders, putting folders on the desktop or in My Documents, filing objects
in Folders, finding lost folders or objects using 'Find', comfort with
'cut and paste', 'Save' and 'Save as' and other tool bar functions, using
Word Pad and other features covered in the course. eBay - (internet skills
a prerequisite)- Buying and selling items on the worlds largest auction
house! Includes use of PayPal and words of caution when buying and selling.
Photoshop Elements 3
Prerequisite: Digital Darkroom (DD) or similar class (must know how
to manipulate your digital photographs enhancing color, brightness, contrast,
cropped size; edit out red eye, dirt specs, power lines, and insert items)
This class will enhance your digital photography skills by providing a
basic understanding of the complex workings of Photoshop software. Topics
covered are: understanding the Adobe desktop, locating and using tools
and palettes, working with and understanding layers, making a selection,
choosing the right tool, using various methods of color correction, and
utilizing filters. This is not a beginner's class, and requires all students
to have taken the Introduction to the Digital Darkroom class. It is also
recommended that students have their own copy of the Adobe Photoshop Elements
3.0 software, and the manual will be referenced during the course.
New Digital Camera User
You have the digital camera. Now what do you do? Learn how to operate
your camera, what your options are after you've taken photos and perhaps
some photo-taking tips, too! When you register, please tell us the make
and model of your of camera. Bring your camera, manual and charged batteries
to both classes.
Excel
We'll use this software to manipulate numbers and columns of numbers and
facts. Keep track of your charitable giving, expenditures, vacation expenses,
checking account balances, etc. Let's Google, How to find things Information
on the planet is doubling every 18 months. This class will explore Google
and other search programs that allow us retrieve information from the
vast World Wide Web. Most of the time will be spent with Google but we
will also explore other sites that interest the class such as Wikipedia,
dictionaries, and movie databases. Students will use the new lab computers
to get hands-on experience with these programs.
Internet/Email
You need to have an Internet service provider or plan to use the computers
at the library or at Click Cape Cod to access the Internet. Class will
cover all you need to know to do research, shop on the internet, download
pictures and information, read the news around the world, download forms
from locations e.g. the IRS, Brokers, Banks etc.; write and read email,
putting pictures in your email, giving email a unique look using stationary.
Course is based on Microsoft Internet Explorer© and Microsoft Outlook
Express© so AOL users may not be able to follow this directly. AOL has
the same features but they have different locations and names.
Open Lab
Got a project you are unsure about doing on your computer? Hit a glitch
in what you are trying to use that new software? Come work on a computer
in our center during this lab, and utilize the expertise of our computer
people in succeeding on your work.

Need to ask a computer question? We will ask our computer experts
to share the fruit of their experience about computers, technology, gadgets
or the Internet! Come join us for a question and answer 2-session class
where participants ask questions regarding any computer related subject.
You can send us your questions in advance.
Computers Assisting Those With a Disability
If you're blind or visually-impaired, how do you read and interpret the
text, graphics, menus, dialogue boxes, and other visual details on-screen?
How do you read the legends on the keyboard? How do you read software
documentation? What about multimedia? If you're deaf or hard-of-hearing,
how will alert sounds (like error beeps) actually manage to alert you?
How do you benefit from soundtracks found in multimedia? If you have a
mobility impairment that prevents you from moving the mouse or typing
on a keyboard, what do you do? If you have a learning disability like
dyslexia, just how do you read and decipher all that colorful text onscreen?
We will try to help you with so-called adaptive or assistive technology
, adjusting your computer and finding hardware or software that eliminates
barriers to using a computer.
Google Earth
This entertaining and informative class will focus on the free Google
Earth program. Google Earth combines millions of satellite images, maps,
and the power of Google Search to put the world's geographic information
at your fingertips. Each student will be at a computer and will explore
the earth from their childhood homes to national monuments, great hikes
on Cape Cod and cities around the world. We will also explore Google Maps
and the new Google Sky feature.
MS Word (advanced) - This course requires an ability
to type and a background in Windows XP. The course introduces the keyboarder
to the MS word processing program. Use it to create correspondence with
a uniquely designed letterhead, generate Flyers, print envelopes, change
colors and fonts, Seasonal Letter designs. Course starts where WordPad
instruction included in the Windows XP course ends.
New Computer User: Things you can do with a computer,
what courses to take, what software to buy, introduction to some of the
software that comes with your PC: Slide viewer, Paint, Wordpad, Internet
Explorer, Outlook Express, Games. Discussion about Virus Protection. Help
Screen use and restore feature. Discussion of Internet Providers with
the features and disadvantages of each kind. Discussion of programs to
help you refresh your ability to type. If you do not have a computer the
class host will stay on to answer questions about features you might consider.
Power Point
Learn how to use this popular Microsoft Office product which is a user
friendly quick way of making visual presentations and slide shows. Compatible
with Laptop Computer showings or connection to a DLP projector for large
audiences. If you plan to run this on your laptop, bring it along. We
are teaching the 2000 version, but is nearly the same as the 2003 version.
We will create a slide presentation using provided and custom backgrounds,
pictures edited to fit the slides, Words and lists. We will learn how
to do a few of the most common variations such as 'fly in' and slide show
running. We will learn to print out shows and keep an outline. If you
have Windows XP we will show how to run a dual screen presentation so
that you can read your notes while showing a full screen presentation.
